Diamonds @ Milan Design Week 2011

Diamonds @ Milan Design Week 2011

Looking to the world for a pre-existing form that reflected the intrinsic nature of the world of rugs (either round or rectangular forms), Emma Elizabeth’s instinct pointed her directly to the world of diamonds. She was intrigued to represent a subject that was, in reality, a hard object, but in this medium could be converted into a soft tactile surface.

The thought of walking on diamond was both painful and dreamlike to her. By scanning in a circular diamond, she was able to play with and distort the fractured light. The circular diamond line outline is a symmetrical form, yet when the light hits the surface it appears to be unique from all angles. ‘Round Diamond’ the first of the Diamond Series was created with a commercial implementation in mind, to sit within a retail environment, the lobby of a hotel or a contemporary residential interior.

The ‘Round Diamond’ is hand tufted from 100% New Zealand wool and is made to order directly from Emma Elizabeth Designs through manufacturer Designer Rugs. With the client being able to play a part in the specification of size and the selection of colours within an 8-12 week lead time. Emma Elizabeth Designs is looking to supply direct to consumers/designers and also to international retailers.
