Immaterial House by Piero Lissoni @ Milan Design Week 2011

Unclear limits, shadowed geometries and suggested ambiances define the Immaterial House, imagined by Piero Lissoni, in co-operation with Elisa Ossino, for the showroom Porro duriniquindici.

Inside stylized ambiances, it is a rarefied melody of objects mixing Porro icons and latest novelties, to suggest that just a few pieces, with strong personality, are sufficient to transmit a warm feeling of home…

It is the result of the complicity between the Milan brand and Lissone, Porro’s art director since 1989 and unique master of lightness in design, minimal approach, preferring reducing weight and matter to lead to creations where quality, beautiful aesthetics and proportions stand out in any detail, a proposal destined to refresh as a light blow, an open-eye dream, with the Milan exhibition week.

In a totally dark scenario, with a few spots directing light beams on the floor, it is possible to perceive a subtle filament spider web: a light weave in metal rod penetrating the architecture of the showroom on two floors to define the wire-frame profile of a light proposal, 6 ambiences in total, stylized boxes in different shake filled with the better known Porro products.

Via Durini 15

In the first rectangular box a dramatic contrast between white and black interpreted by two icons such as the Nouvelle Vague chaise longue by Christophe Pillet in thermoplastics, an open S expressively filling the space and the Balancing Boxes small table by Front, consisting of a series of painted metal boxes irregularly matched, in balance within the space.

A sort of entrance, allowing to access a big ambiance signed by Piero Lissoni: the Minimo table in black lacquered hemlock solid wood, a simple horizontal table raised on bending supporting jointed base units, the square modularity of Modern, exhibited in a low composition on a “lama” foot with suspended unit in the Material House variant, in hemlock solid wood and spaces painted by hand in different colours.

On the upper floor, the bigger room recalling the Porro 2011 advertising campaign, with a Modern red cupboard closed with small doors entirely changing the unit exterior turned in a 3D surface, matched with the Fractal table, with an L-shaped foot in white painted aluminium and supporting white lacquered top, together with the Sidewall bookcase in the white version with a pivoting base, the 3 proposals signed by Lissoni.

Nearby the square Black and White cupboard by Front in negative with a black surface decorated with a light pattern, and the Modern Light bench by Piero Lissoni in black, standing out in space with its defined line reflecting the minimum design bent of its designer.

In the rectangular recess a box with a selection of Spindle Baby, the children model of the famous Piero Lissoni seat with a steel rod frame and lacquered back and seat, while the oval house welcomes all the chairs designed by Porro in the last few years, from the more traditional Camogli with a braided rope back to the classic Como and Lario available in different woods and materials, to the light Spindle, the embracing H.Chair and the soft Soft Chair by Christophe Pillet, the office Conch by Decoma Design with a central hole to the last proposals Neve and Ghiaccio …

In a relaxing balance of empty and closed spaces, lights and shades, interiors and exteriors, Lissoni writes a new song for Porro. A light melody of objects, only a few are more than enough but strongly characterised, to transfer the warm feeling to be at home, a soft cradle and nest leaving enough space to relationships and exchanges between its inhabitants.
