Jaime Hayon is definitely aware of the fact that good design creates emotions.
Seven years after their very first collaboration with BD Design for the ‘Showtime’ collection, the Spanish designer has now launched a new collection under the name ‘Gardenias’ during Milan Design Week 2013.
The designer’s love of what he does is perhaps best exemplified in the terracotta vases which complete the Gardenia collection. Simple and elegant, they look like they have leapt out of a child’s drawing thereby transforming an archetypical vase into something original and utterly charming.
A leader in the emerging European style, flamboyant and humorous, Hayon continues to be one of the most celebrated Spanish designers, recognisable from his visual language which tactfully oscillates between artistic expression and product design.
“Designers tend to take themselves a bit too seriously. I have a lot of fun of doing what I do. And I think that is evident in my work”.
Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon was born in Madrid in 1974.
Times magazine included Hayon as one of the 100 most relevant creators of our times and Wallpaper magazine has listed him as one of the most influential creators of the last decade.
With offices in Italy, Spain and UK, Hayon’s main interest is to find challenges and new perspectives.
His vision blurrs the lines between art, decoration and design bringing back a renaissance in finely-crafted, intricate objects within the context of contemporary design culture: creating furniture, product, interiors, sculptures and art Installations.
His unique style was first fully exposed in ‘Mediterranean Digital Baroque’ at London’s David Gill Gallery, followed by many exhibitions and installations set up in major galleries and museums worldwide.
His concern for the conservation of craft skills and his way of challenging design has led him to develop renowned work for Baccarat, Fritz Hansen, The Groningen Museum, Bisazza, Bosa, La Terraza del Casino, Lladró, Magis, Established & Sons and Faberge among many others.
His influence and variety has received important International awards such as Elle Deco International Award 2006, Elle Deco Germany: ‘Best International Designer’ 2008, ‘BEST DESIGNER’ for ELLE DECO JAPAN in 2008, AD RUSSIA ‘DESIGNER OF THE YEAR’ 2009, MAISON OBJET DESIGNER OF THE YEAR 2010.
In 2008, Jaime was guest of honor at Belgium’s Interieur Biennial, the youngest person ever to receive the accolade.
