Once again the big fashion houses positioned themselves in the midst of the Salone Furniture Fair in Milan – Monograms and furnishings – united by design. !
Fashion and furnishings come from two different worlds, but they share the intention to present their own take on comfort and elegance, and they are united by the same common denominator: design.
By collaborating with architects and furniture designers, fashion brands can gain the freedom to explore process and materials through more experimental applications.
The U-Joints – Equations of Universal Style exhibition at the Plusdesign Gallery, curated by Andrea Caputo and Anniina Koivu, examines the theme of joints, through 50 designers’ experiments, prototypes and products.
U-Joints explores the theme of connections in design, by taking a look at the multifaceted world of joints – from those that are most common, to design’s most innovative ones, as well as those that have had the greatest influence on contemporary design.
“Furniture and interiors evolve in organic unity with the building, the way chromosomes multiply out of the original sperm and the thinking of the total concept is carried down to the smallest detail.
Hence my interest in furniture”
Now in its 57th year, the Salone del Mobile underpins what is widely regarded as the design industry’s most important Design Week. But the event has faced some criticism in recent years, over both its’ organisation and its content.
This has sparked the very first Salone del Mobile.Milano Manifesto, an affectionate tribute to the city, a declaration of intent geared to channeling the forces in Milan to work together to preserve the leadership role of both the city and the trade fair, and attract ideas, projects and new resources
The Salone del Mobile’s Manifesto targets these issues and more, with its rallying cry for the industry …….. ” To give shape to the sort of design and architecture that is more conscious of the needs of a constantly evolving society. It also encourages companies, architects and designers participating in the fair to challenge production processes and service methods in order to Stay ahead of the Game”.
