Designer Tom Dixon recently found himself at the Center of a Japanese – Israeli Diplomacy Conflict

Moshe, the Israeli Prime Minister’s private chef, capped an elaborate dinner with a selection of chocolates served in a Tom Dixon cast metal shoe, which is considered highly offensive in Japanese culture.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Surface magazine teamed up with celebrated architect Rockwell Group to explore American design by recasting a U.S. icon.

Rockwell teamed up with and design consultancy 2×4 to create The Diner, which is located in one of the cavernous vaults situated below the tracks that run into Milan’s Centrale railway station.

As part of the London Festival of Architecture renowned names in architecture came to recreate the world’s most iconic buildings out of cake by competing in the The Great Architectural Bake Off 2017

Competing teams were asked to explore the London Festival of Architecture’s theme of ‘ memory ’ in their edible architectural creations.

A gingerbread interpretation of their design for the former bullring Arenas de Barcelona by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners claimed the coveted title of 2017 Architectural baking champions.

Inhabits – Milano Design Village occupied an area of some 700 sq mtrs in Piazza del Cannone within the green parklands of the Parco Sempione (near the Castello Sforzesco), were 5 x housing units and some design projects dedicated to urban sustainability and renewable energy were presented

The theme of the event, which is the changing habits, as well as the socio-political current affairs, which force us to reflect on the issue of housing and on the perception of the urban public space.

THE RESTAURANT is a series of 4 extraordinary Caeserstone kitchens and dining halls designed by Tom Dixon, arrayed in a cruciform setting within the beautiful Baroque splendour of the Rotonda Della Besana

The four basic elements of Air, Water, Earth and Fire give each kitchen and dining hall a clear aesthetic, materiality and cooking method.

Throughout the week visitors will be encouraged to sit down, slow down and re-calibrate.

Bar Basso is remembered the late and great James Irvine with a new gin and tonic glass designed by Michael Young.

Maurizio Stochetto & the Bar Basso created a cocktail glass in James’ memory to honour the legendary friendship that was formed – in the wee hours of the morning, over a Negroni or 2 !!

Wallpaper* invited the American Hardwood Export Council, architects Kolman Boye and furniture-makers Benchmark to create a towering structure of food plates as part of the Wallpaper* Handmade 2015 exhibition.

The brief was to design a candy-store concept for handing out free savoury biscuits from local bistro T’a Milano.

It’s huge at over 3.7m in diameter and the same in height, more a structure, than a piece of furniture. As architect Victor Boye Julebäk said “Something really strong was needed for the huge venue… but maybe we went a little over the top!”

Design Academy Eindhoven presented “Eat Shit” at the Salone del Mobile – the first exhibition of the new department Food Non Food, directed by Marije Vogelzang

‘Eat Shit’ is a definition of the human condition. You eat, you shit, you eat, you shit, and then you die.

Food is life. Input leads to output. So it makes sense to also examine one of foods stinkiest consequences – shit and waste.

Shit is your print-out, the great revealer of a person’s health and culture.
