The Art of Living @ Salone Milan 2014

The Art of Living exhibition at the Triennale di Milano was curated by one of Italy’s leading Interior Design Magazines “Living Interiors”

The goal was to tell the relationship between art and space of the house. As a painting, a sculpture , an installation influence the domestic scenario ? And can a piece of design affect a site-specific ?

Tom Dixon ( PT 2 / 2 ) revised @ Salone Milan 2014

Tom Dixon is still on a mission to design, illuminate and furnish the future with innovative lighting, furniture and accessories of longevity, simplicity and a materiality inspired by Britain’s unique heritage.

For 2014 his theme was based upon the archetypical British members’ club which he reworked into a contemporary version – a modern day home-away-from-home, a plush and cultured haven where pleasure and work collide..

Wallpaper* Handmade @ Salone Milan 2014

Wallpaper* Handmade was a “freshly minted celebration of craft, creativity and collaboration” which saw Wallpaper* Magazine once again pairing designers with manufacturers, and commissioning them to create one-off pieces for Milan Design Week.

This year Wallpaper* Handmade again returned to the Leclettico Gallery for its 5th year, and worked closely with the gallery’s founder Claudio Loria to curate the exhibition.

Minotti Presence ( Pt 2 / 2 ) revised @ Salone Milan 2014

The Minotti 2014 exhibition stand project revisits the concept of “destructured architecture”

Minotti skillfully creates spaces through the use of dividing walls, that interact among themselves through an interplay of differing heights and overlapping various elements, and a blending of materials and finishes designed to produce a dynamic separation of the various settings in which the new products from the collection are displayed.

“The transformation of an object, through the process of repair”

Milan’s La Rinascente department store, in collaboration with London’s Serpentine Galleries, showcased the installation “In a State of Repair” by Martino Gamper during the 2014 Design Week in Milano

If the Salone was about conspicuous consumption – and even more conspicuous design, then here by contrast was a different proposition about economy in an era of austerity, a notion of something being well-made implying use over time, rather than speedy abandonment.

Self unSelf @ Salone del Mobile 2014

The Design Academy of Eindhoven ( DAE ) alumni presented their graduation projects in Milan, Italy: at the Lambretto Art Project Building.

The ‘self’ in the exhibition title still first and foremost refers to the student. The Design Academy of Eindhoven is fully focused on the talents, preferences and fascinations of its students. For their graduation they have to initiate projects themselves, in which these come to the fore.

But when you look at those projects – about healthcare, open source production, new economic systems – they come across as pretty altruistic. Contemporary design is very much oriented toward the ‘unself’.’

Citizen @ Salone Milan 2014

Architect Tsuyoshi Tane of French design studio DGT, created a spectacular light and time installation for Citizen watches, at the Triennale Museum, that enveloped visitors in a soft gilded cloud.

“Sunlight is the terrestrial measurement of passing time”, explained Tsuyoshi Tane, “we took that as a starting point and developed the simple concept behind the Citizen installation.”
