Inspired by the cabinets of curiosities that were stored and exposed objects collected with a taste for the unusual, this unit plays the card of the singularity.
Wanting to reinvent the way we think of storage, Curiosity consists of a low table with many nooks and crannys in which you can store your wares – a cabinet of curiosities.
There’s a glass dome if you have a special piece you want to highlight, or perhaps you’d rather stash things away in the circular bin. Of the cabinet the designers note: “Exposed or hidden, decorative objects, animate the furniture, allowing you to adjust your space a personalised way”.
Designed to respond to a constantly changing interior design, this central island allows you to define areas of habitat without losing the feeling of freedom and convenience offered by the open spaces.
BLINK Behind the Mirror
Also on show at the Salone Satellite by Twodesigners is ‘Blink’ Behind the Mirror– Born from a meeting between the designers and an inventor called Brinden System, this object plays with both transparency and reflection.
Using simple technology based on the interaction between the glass and the LED, the mirror becomes transparent upon touch to reveal a clock.
“We have a vision that is both fun and offbeat design. Our approach suggests that rather than impose the functions that our items are for. ”
Rodrigue Strouwen and Jonathan Honvoh share a vision for graphic design and a passion for street art.
Their diplomas from the Ecole Supérieure des Arts de Liège in their pocket, they work on different projects under the collective design studio, TwoDesigners, established in 2008.
Their work, is a poetry – both playful and offbeat – suggests the functions that their objects are intended rather than imposing them. Multifunctional and modular, their creations tell stories.
“The role of the designer is to create emotions through objects. Each object has a soul, a presence that challenges us.”
