Milan Design Week, 2011 – Tom Dixon preview

Here is a sneak peek at some of the new products and additions to the Tom Dixon collection, to be launched at Milan Design Week,  next month.

‘Bulb’ is an energy efficient over-sized light bulb that is designed to react to the phasing-out of the incandescent bulb and unattractive aesthetic of most CFL replacements. the quick start T5 bulb is unique to Tom Dixon and the standard E27 thread means that it can be used with almost any light fitting.

Other products on show at the event will include ETCH light; a sturdy, low-cost iron chair called CAST; and ROLL, a contract-friendly worktable on a mobile cast iron base which has been designed to help lone waiting staff reconfigure their tables with minimal fuss. There will also be variations of existing product collections eg  Peg chair, Scoop chair and Beat lights.

Tom’s attention to the raw materials and getting the best out of those raw material allows him, “to rediscover simplicity and honesty in production that in itself can be quite modern.”

Plenty more Tom Dixon news coming  –  so stay tuned!
