Salone Milan 2010 – Marc Newson

Marc Newson talks to Carlo Antonelli at the Grand Hotel, Milan for Domus Magazine about – sex, design and the origins of Bar Basso culture.

The Australian-born Marc Newson, age 46, is one of the world’s most accomplished and influential designers. He has had a prolific, international career and is something of a phenomenon. His distinctive, curvilinear designs are often described as futuristic, sexy, witty and original.

Newson’s philosophy, the tongue-in-cheek names, he gives his works such as ‘bucky’, ‘super guppy’… makes his pieces desireable all over the world.

Many of his furniture, lighting, glassware and household object designs have already achieved a culturally significantstatus, with design curators from moma, sfmoma, vitra design museum and london’s design museum snatching them up for their permanent collections.

His work has also infiltrated the ultra-hip world of pop culture, appearing in Madonna’s videos, Austin powers film and many other movie sets.
