Salone Milan 2010 – Maison Martin Margiela

Salone Milan 2010 – Maison Martin Margiela

“The Maison in a room” depicts Maison Martin Margiela’s art direction in one single room.

Located on the first floor of 10 Corso Como, the room will be entirely re-designed and decorated by Maison Martin Margiela.

The atmosphere of the room draws on the prolific and iconographic use of black & white – of furniture, objects, fabrics and textures, old and new – typical of the spirit of the Maison Martin Margiela’s Paris premises, a former school of industrial design, in the 11th arrondissement of the city. Trompe l’oeil walls of a Parisian apartment show a fireplace, doors and carved wood panels to build on the space’s personality.

Forged on the wit of the Maison, the trompe l’oeil walls are displaying partially empty numbered zones to be re-colored in different shades of grey and silver. A clin d’oeil on children’s coloring games. Safes are half hidden behind classical paintings to display jewelry while sunglasses are presented on surrealistic dolls’ eyes cabinets.

“The Maison in a room” is displaying all non-fashion lines available from Maison Martin Margiela: the complete collection of home objects and the Maison Martin Margiela book edited by Rizzoli (line 13: Objects & publications), “Untitled” – the first fragrance for women (line 3: A collection of fragrance), jewelry pieces (line 12: Fine jewelry collection), the complete collection of “Incognito” sunglasses and the new “assembled” frame (line 8 : Eyewear collection) and the collaboration with Chevalier éditions (a hand-knotted wool and silk rug, marked with the footprints of the “Tabi”). Maison Martin Margiela will also make a re-edition from the Artisanal collection, Spring/Summer 2002 – belts with vintage black and bright trimmings- available exclusively the time of the installation at 10 Corso Como.
